HSL Construction Begins

The construction of a new 3rd floor entrance to the Health Sciences Library (HSL) starts on Monday, Sept 27, 2004. We hope the new entrance will be ready for the start of Winter Quarter, January 2005.

During construction:

  • There will be unavoidable noise and confusion

  • The internal stairs between the 2nd and 3rd floors will be closed. You must use the external stairs and elevators to move between the floors of HSL.
  • Only the Learning Commons (Microlab) portion of the 3rd floor will be accessible (through T-323)

  • Research Funding Service offices will be relocated to study rooms T-317 A & B (also through T-323)
  • HSL 3rd floor restrooms will be closed (use the 2nd floor ones or outside the library)

  • Reference materials will be relocated to the 2nd floor
  • Reserve materials may only be used in-house
  • Internet and telephone access will remain active during construction.

The scope of work includes: relocation of the 2nd floor library entrance to the third floor, relocation of associated library functions, addition of a new entrance desk, carpet, new security doors and security hardware, ADA modifications to third floor men's restroom, relocation of email stations and updated electrical compoenents to the North portion of the library.

Watch the HSL Construction page for updates and please excuse our mess while we create an improved facility for you. Questions may be addressed to hsl@u.washington.edu or 206-543-3390
