Open Access Launch of NeuroCommons
Today Science Commons officially launched NeuroCommons. The NeuroCommons is a proving ground for the ideas behind Science Commons: open legal contracts and Open Access literature, advanced use of open-standards Semantic Web technology, and the construction of an open community involving all the stakeholders in scientific funding, research, and publishing.
It represents an integrated testbed for Science Commons' work in Publishing and Licensing as well as the first investment in our efforts to create a Science Commons by a private company. NeuroCommons will:
- Use freely available literature and databases to make scientific knowledge, descriptions of biological materials, and data sets easier to use and find - we will connect a graph of neurological information and publish it in Semantic Web standard formats.
- Provide a web-based infrastructure for search, community-driven additions, and annotations.
- Lower the legal and technical barriers to finding and sharing knowledge and tools in the neurosciences.
NeuroCommons is funded by
Teranode.
