HSL is providing trial access to Mosby's Nursing Consult through December 2005 to evaluate it for possible purchase. Please send your comments to us by completing a brief survey.
Mosby's Nursing Consult, developed by Elsevier, is an online resource of information designed for nurses and organized similarly to MDConsult. Nursing Consult contains books, journals, patient handouts, news and updates.
During the Thanksgiving break, HSL will be open limited hours as follows:
Standard hours resume on Saturday, Nov 26, 2005. All electronic resources remain available throughout the break.
Recently an attempt was made through the UW campus system to systematically download the entire contents of an extremely expensive, and critical clinical information resource. This action is illegal and almost resulted in the loss of access to this resource for the entire UW community. Fortunately, it was detected and steps taken to prevent it.
It is critical that all users in the UW community understand that any attempt to systematically download any University of Washington contracted resources violates our contracts and can result in termination of the resource. PLEASE USE OUR RESOURCES RESPONSIBLY.
If you have questions about what is and is not acceptable, please refer to the UW Libraries Electronic Resources Usage Guidelines or contact one of the librarians.
Your reply to this survey helps us prioritize our Student Technology Fee (STF) proposal requests. Please take this opportunity to express your opinion and to provide support for STF funding for Learning Commons updates.
Background: Equipment and software in the Learning Commons are primarily funded by the $40/quarter Student Technology Fee you pay. Campus organizations submit proposals to the STF committee to determine how your money is spent. Specific proposals have no impact on the amount of the fee.
Workstations in the Learning Commons have been replaced on a staggered 4-year rotation. This year the workstations in the drop-in area were replaced. In two years we will request that all of the classroom stations be replaced. So, at any time, students always have the option of using equipment that is less than two years old. This is an "off" year for major equipment purchases. So we're concentrating on smaller requests such as software, and a few pieces of peripheral hardware. You can see information about our past proposals.
