Today Science Commons officially launched NeuroCommons. The NeuroCommons is a proving ground for the ideas behind Science Commons: open legal contracts and Open Access literature, advanced use of open-standards Semantic Web technology, and the construction of an open community involving all the stakeholders in scientific funding, research, and publishing.
It represents an integrated testbed for Science Commons' work in Publishing and Licensing as well as the first investment in our efforts to create a Science Commons by a private company. NeuroCommons will:
As of July 6th, the NIH Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) system accepts submissions from users who have an NIH MyNCBI account. This account will enable "third parties" (e.g., administrative personnel, graduate students, etc.), with permission from the author, to deposit NIH-funded manuscripts into PubMed Central (PMC).
Previouslty, only NIH Staff or users who had Electronic Research Administration (eRA) Commons accounts could submit manuscripts to the NIHMS system. Instructions for Third Party submission may be found on the Scholarly Publishing & Open Access page.
